Well today we had
the opportunity to interview a young beautiful lady who shared her story how
she become a hairstylist and answered the questions you might have had about
becoming a hairstylist.
We always do such interviews of young
entrepreneurs to inspire you to go after your dream business and help you
achieve it through the stories they share.
Meet the
beautiful Joan.
Question: who
is Obiosa Joan?
Answer: I am
Obiosa Joan 20 years old female from Ndoni Rivers states ,port Harcourt, Nigeria and that is
where am currently based. I am a graduate of Port Harcourt, Microbiology department.
Love reading and I am super inquisitive, love knowing new things and seeing new
places.
Question:
what inspired you to be a hairstylist?
Answer:
I see
hairstyling as an art, a way of expressing my self. So basically I drew my
inspiration from the art on people’s heads. I want the world to see my art too.
Question: When did you discover you had passion for hair styling?
Answer: I discovered
my passion for hairstyling in 2013 , I was still in secondary school then…. It
was really exciting trying to weave my fellow students’ hair, I kept trying and
correcting my mistakes.
Question: When did you start doing hair styling professionally?
Answer: I started doing hair styling in 2017.
Question: what was your first hair style you styled?
Answer:
It was Bob
Marley (one-one)
Question:
How much money did you start with in your hairstyling business?
Answer: I really did not start up with any money, I do home services here.
Question:
Do you ever wish to start your own hair brand, and what name would you call it?
Answer: I already have my hair brand, it’s called jowie’s place…..?
Question:
What are some of the challenges you have found in your business?
Answer:
Some of the
challenges I have faced….well, initially standing for hours trying to finish up
someone’s hair was really exhausting, now I’m used to it.
Then
sometimes some clients make it almost impossible for you to do your job, I’m
sure a lot of hairstylists have this issue, Lol… But out challenges make us
strong.
Question:
Have you ever encountered anything in your business that made you feel like
giving up?
Answer: Yes, a lot of times. Most times it’s the fact that I don’t make as
much income as I wish I could make, but I know better days are ahead so I keep
at it.
Questions: What advice
would you give to someone who wants to become a hairstylist?
Answer: You have
got to be patient while doing a job like this, try not be quick at anger. hairstyling
also requires passion ,if its more like a hobby to you then it makes the job
eaiser.be open to meeting new people, you will meet amazing people while doing
this job too , I know I have met quite a number.
Question:
When did you get your first break through?
Answer:
I think it
was last year…
I started
getting a lot of calls and bookings, plus I got better at hair styling.
Question:
What word of wisdom would you give to young entrepreneurs?
Answer: It can be hard in the beginning, but never give up , you will
succeed at whatever you put your mind to.
Question:
What milestone do want to achieve in your business?
Answer: I want my business to be an international business, I want people
to know me, be happy and satisfied with my services and also remember how much
love and passion I put into my job .i want to be the first option for people
that want to style their hair.

Answer: Lol, I don’t think so.
